Ahem, to my sweet Shard (and all-time favorite robot):
Your design is so wonderfully badass. Your soul is complex and beautiful, and your personality shines 100x brighter than your armored exterior. You are a star with both style and the right amount of edginess, but you are a sweetheart at your core. With a peak sense of humor, you always know what to say. When things get grim, you lighten the mood because you show us how to have a good time regardless of the situation. You charge into battle with bravery and class, all while never leaving your teammates behind. You have more than just intelligence and wit, in fact, you have more humanly wisdom than most of us.
Above all else, you are kind. You pull at my heart strings in a unique way. I understand how it must feel to desire having friends, family and recognition for your good deeds. I hoped you would get to experience it all, including love. With all of those conflicting emotions, you still showed the greatest display of selflessness. You sacrificed it all to fight in the shadows, protecting the world and the people you cared about. You did it so they may continue living a life like the one you deserve.
I hope you will be rebuilt one day. And if not, the people you fought for will be told of your heroism. Your memory will live on as Shard, the Freedom Fighter ❤️

Shard, my baby, my boy, you were too good for this world. May you rest in peace (actually, may Flynn find a way to introduce you in the IDW comics, if Nine managed to craft several metal troopers you could also come back).
Was his untimely demise due to Penders, or was Sega/Archie just afraid that there might be a chance he’d sue them again? Cause I don’t think Ken could claim HIM of all characters, they could have just changed his backstory with the reboot to something different from what happened in issue 88. Issue 25 was just an adaptation of CD and that’s 100% Sega’s property.
At any rate, I’m heartbroken that he’s gone forever. Sure, the changes I talked about would absolutely turn him into a different character from what we know and love, but still, something cool COULD be done.

I was listening to the song better harder faster stronger by daff punk, and this comic was completely perfect for that song! Y’know, cause metal sonic upgraded in a better way in every way possible, still though, poor shard… AH who am I kidding, he deserved this after the amount of times he’s kicked metals butt and taunted him over and over and over again, so I say again, it is what he deserved! Good boy metal sonic. Self thought (Oh my gosh shard fans are gonna come after me like an angry group on Facebook! 😰)

Shard was so freaking cool. I will never forgive Ken Penders for causing his- and so many others- complete eradication from the franchise.
Goodbye pre-SGW Universe… you had your flaws but you didn’t deserve this.
You see, after the “Worlds Unite” story arc, the super genesis wave rewrote ALL history in the SatAM universe. For example, Sonic and Tails have new memories that replaces the old ones, Sally’s flesh and blood again and no longer robotized, Antione’s not in a comma, Bunnie’s not working for Eggman, and Rotor made a new home base for the freedom fighters.

Sheesh, archie had the deepest stories of the entire franchise.
I think soon we’ll see idw explore these kind of stories.
shard will forever be my favorite Archie character, too bad he got pendered or something like that, the bits in the other silver universe comic thing were inspired by him right?
This is one of the greatest Sonic stories ever. Definitely Archie’s best single issue. I miss Shard.
