I don’t think I can stress this enough, but after seeing all of the comments on this story arc, I have to say this… Shattered World Crisis is a terrible retelling of Sonic Unleashed. First off, they take forever to actually start the story, as there is a lot of catching up to see where everybody is at post-reboot. (It’s almost like they should’ve waited to do something as ambitious as this for later in the run) Another problem I have is Sonic’s terrible characterization, as he is incredibly annoying with all of the stupid jokes he makes, and he barely takes anything seriously (Even in the final issues of the arc). Instead of the Werehog being an embodiment of how Sonic doesn’t get consumed by darkness when the world is consumed by Dark Gaia, demonstrating how he’s pure at heart, they treat him in Archie like he turns into the Hulk at the beginning of the story. One more thing I would like to mention is that this arc has TOO MANY CHARACTERS. They introduce an entire Eggman’s Dozen group, along with other factions of people around the world, but none of them get proper time to be developed, as the story needs to keep getting pushed forward due to horrendous pacing. Opposed to Unleashed, where the game has a very small cast of characters, but they make due well. All of these factors combined makes Chip’s sacrifice at the end of the story much less impactful, as there was barely any time to devote to his development because of all of the pointless distractions. (For example, the random Sonic the Fighters and Worlds Unite Arcs thrown in near the middle of the story which contributes nothing to the overarching narrative.) Overall, I would simply recommend consuming the story via the game itself, as it does a much better job telling the story than this retelling ever could. (This shouldn’t be much of an issue anymore because of the recent Sonic Unleashed Recompiled on PC). So please, don’t attack me for sharing this rather contrarian take. This is just my opinion.

The fact that these comics managed to fix Unleashed’s pretty messy story make it so they will always have a place in my heart

Imagine an infinite sonic comic, maybe made by a super smart ai or something, so that you could get this insanely long storyline without having an actual end

“Way to go, Chip!” No, you were supposed to say, “Chip! You rock!” Awe, Chip’s farewell to everyone was precious. X3 Though that picture of him hugging the planet was kiiiiiiinda weird. ^^;

It’s just like Unleashed. Chip leaves behind his bracelet as he seals himself and Dark Gaia back into Mobius’ core. And nobody realizes that, in the games, Chip has been there the whole time, because… He’s the SUN. 🌞😤 How did you guys NOT know that?!

And that’s how it ends, huh? What an amazing adaptation of Sonic Unleashed, I say it surpasses the game itself! (The only problem is that you can’t play it, haha!) And this is how the Freedom Fighters end off, one last hurrah to everyone in the Archie-verse, I’m sure going to miss this series.
