How does the date system even work in Mega Man’s world? It can’t be Roman numerals because then it would be 200XI.

It’s just “The future” for all intents and purposes. It started as a means to hide just how far in the future mega man was, but then by mega man X it became tradition to treat it like an actual point in time
so Classic Rockman is 20XX
Rockman X is 21XX (100 years later)
Rockman Z is 22XX (100 years later)
Rockman ZX is around 24XX to 27XX (200 to 600 years later)
and finally, Rockman Dash (Megaman Legends) takes place thousands of years after ZX
oh, and battle network is its own timeline that takes place in 20XX, and star force takes place 20 years later, in 220X
