the ending is quite bland, not quite the dramatic exit I expected throughoute the entire series.
This series is really good, despite who wrote it. I really like the relationship between Knuckles and Julie-Su; both characters are quite interesting. Overall, the art is solid, although there are a few chapters I don’t enjoy as much — particularly issues 22 to 24 — because they deal with topics like Nazi echidnas and politics, which can be a bit tedious. Still, they’re not bad, just less entertaining compared to the rest.
The other issues are great, especially #4, #16, and #28.
I also like that Knuckles has Chaos powers, and that he’s portrayed as intelligent and gifted — not like in Sonic Boom, where he’s made to look dumb. Here, he’s strategic, a good leader, and has a very interesting backstory. Personally, I really enjoy the echidna lore; it’s well developed.

It’s a shame that it’s all setup, with no payoff. I am enamoured by the complex interpersonal relationships and worldbuilding set up – only for it to ammount to nothing in the present, only weird cat-fights. Julie-Su can be such a fun character when used in full capacity, but it feels like she gets immediately shoved to the side until Knuckles needs some relationship drama in his life. Mixed with the weird subtext with Locke and Lara-Le, I just don’t know what to make of it. I love the echidnas, but I can’t help but always feel like the payoffs are missing a whole chunk.
