Summary
Sonic the Hedgehog Issues 252-290. Post-Super Genesis Wave.
After an unsuccessful experiment by Dr. Eggman, many characters from the past are erased from existence, and the memories of the main heroes are slightly clouded.
This comic era is perhaps the easiest and most understandable point for your entry into the comic book series. There’s a minimum of confusion, plenty of game references, an amazing reimagining of the Sonic Unleashed story, and great dialogues with superb art. As before, for the complete immersion, it is better to read both lines in parallel: Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic Universe. There’s also some mini-stories designed to give readers insight into the origins of various characters as they occurred in the new timeline — check out Sonic Origins.

I don’t really know how to feel about this arc though. Like, Edens Zero did something similar, where several ally characters die, but the universe gets reset and everyone got perfectly happy endings and all their memories and lives restored. That’s what’s happening here. Like, Antoine won’t have to work on recovery, nor will Bunnie have to go through the guilt of nearly losing him, maybe. And of course they don’t need to heal Sally’s roboticization or any negative side-effects that come with it. The whole reset really does nullify a lot of sacrifices made.

A question about the series: Since the 7 chaos emeralds from Pre-super genisis wave were really just thousands of emeralds weren’t they super emeralds? what’s the difference between them and the ones inside the Master emeralds known as the “super emeralds” and how does that tie into the games?

Eh I find this part of the comic pretty uninspired, personally. The art is good, but the old pre-sgw cast was better. I prefer early and mid archie to late.
There are still a lot of things to praise it for, I really liked the Sonic Unleashed adaptation (take that for inspiration), the world-building, etc. I miss the old cast as well but I believe that the post-reboot world is THE ideal version of the game world.
Definitely agree that newbies should just read it all and form their own opinions!

Alright let me explain why the Archie Reboot is my favorite part:
Preboot Archie is far too complicated for my liking and while it does have some really good characters, locations, etc. Too much happens at once to the point where it’s hard to keep up. Also there are some stories that feel like fanfiction lol.
The Reboot takes (in my opinion) the best parts of old issues and merges them with a world more similar to the one in the games. I think it’s a perfect blend of Comic content with Game content.
Considering that ALL of SEGA & Capcom’s franchises get involved in the 2nd collision between vanilla Sonic and Mega Man halfway through this reboot, that’s not saying much.
That was only a one-time thing.
